Ukraine into NATO and Russia's reaction.

Ukrain and NATOUkraine wishes to enter NATO and the EU, but Russia is against it. Ukraine has the right to form alliances that it believes provide the security and future for the citizens, or it may be subordinated to the dictates of another State, even if that State is Russia?

Each state is free to choose those unions which are more suited to him. But the choice of union - it is not the choice of club, a decision which affects only the candidate and members of the community. When the Union is the political and military, as NATO, which was created to resist a potential enemy login new member will inevitably cause changes in the international balance, in particular, causing the reaction of neighboring countries.

State against which the alliance is organized the alert and begins to investigate his intentions. If a country is deemed threatening to the alliance itself it will take countermeasures and make every effort to demonstrate its dissatisfaction. Situation would be slightly different if NATO after the end of the Cold War reinvented and would be a collective security organization for the European continent open to all countries who able to share this responsibility. But since the second term of Bill Clinton NATO chose to expand to the east, recruiting one of the other Warsaw Pact countries ie ex allies of the Soviet Union.

Anyways Ukraine's case is exceptional. In the course of its history, this state became the border area borders of another state which is larger and more powerful: Poland - before the end of the 17th century., Russia - from 17. until the end of the Cold War. Ukraine's independence after the First World War was short and required the patronage of Germany whos after its military successes on the Western Front became a leader of power in the region for a certain time. Cultural and religious roots in Ukraine are really intertwined with the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Russian kingdom. Kiev - is not only a major Ukrainian city, it is also the cradle of Russian Orthodoxy. Eastern Ukraine is a home for 10 million Russians. Crimea was given to Ukraine by Khrushchev on the occasion of 300 anniversary of the union between Ukraine and Russia but the biggest part of population of the peninsula are russians. Sevastopol which Ukraine leased the Russian Black Sea Fleet is a city that russians heroically defended during the Crimean War. It would be a mistake to think that Russia, no matter who is in the Kremlin now can approve Ukrain's membership in NATO.

I believe that its entry into the EU would not raise objections from Moscow. But they would have arisen at Brussels where the intoxication of the expansion are not yet fully passed.

well if tomorrow Mexico decides to become a part of Russia - would America be happy? I don't think so. And what NATO is trying to do is to get as much territory around the Russia as they can.

What games? Who wants USSR back, are you Russian i do not think so, so do not speak for Russian People, you do not know what they want. You should look at US foreign policy, what would you do if Russia would bring missiles back to Cuba or place military base in Mexico, because there might be a threat from Canada? i am sure you would not like it. Plus two of your presidents Regan and Bush senior promise that NATO wont expand to the borders of Russia, US should mark its own words.
