As we promised once a month we are posting cartoons from Chinese press. Life in China is difficult to characterize as the Middle Kingdom is a land of extremes. Depending on which snapshot you take of Chinese life, you might think China is an underdeveloped nation or among the most modern, a hard-line Communist regime or the most capitalistic society on earth. In some respects Chinese life is not all that dissimilar to American life and in others I cannot imagine a more different culture. So Let's take a look at Chinese Humor.

LONDON/COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Unusually heavy snowfall stranded hundreds of motorists, disrupted trains and shut down schools and airports across Britain on Wednesday as the country suffered through its longest cold snap in nearly 30 years.
The British military was called in overnight to help rescue motorists when up to 1,000 vehicles were caught in a massive snow-related traffic jam in Hampshire, in southern England. Many people were evacuated to nearby rescue centers but some people slept in their vehicles overnight.

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The U.S. beef import dispute has derailed Taiwan's plan to negotiate three critical accords with the United States that may help pave the way for a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), a senior official said regretfully Thursday.
"The Legislative Yuan's passage of a controversial amendment to the Act Governing Food Sanitation has also obstructed resumption of talks under the Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) , " said Francis Kuo-hsin Liang, vice minister of economic affairs.

MOSCOW: Russia plans to launch 10 spacecraft this year, including four manned spacecraft and six cargo spaceships, the Russian spacecraft manufacturer Rocket and Space Corporation Energia said on Monday.Four Soyuz-TMA space capsules and six Progress cargo ships are scheduled to be launched to the International Space Station (ISS) this year, the company said, adding that experiments on a new series of Soyuz-TMA manned spaceships will begin in 2010. The manufacturer said it will complete the initial draft of the "Prospective Piloted Transport System," a project to develop a new-generation manned spacecraft, this year. The new capsule, which will be able to carry four to six astronauts, is expected to blast off from the Vostochny launching pad in Russia's Amur region.
